THINGS TO DO IN HAWAII
If you’re planning a trip to Hawaii, you owe it to yourself to consider Kauai, known as the Garden Island. This lush paradise is perfect for people who are looking for outdoor adventures and a romantic getaway. Of the many enticing options to get you outside in the tropical beauty, our favorite is the Koloa Zipline. And once you’ve experienced the thrill of flying through the extraordinary, lush landscape, there are plenty of other fun things to do in Koloa.
Thrilling Zipline Experience
Koloa is a stunning part of the island of Kauai, and the zipline is the ideal way to truly immerse yourself in its beauty. Koloa Zipline boasts three of the longest ziplines on the island, such as the Waita line, which spans a half mile.
The entire course includes eight lines and will take you about three and a half hours to complete. Each line was carefully placed to maximize the experience, soaring over 22,000 acres of unparalleled beauty. You’ll see breathtaking views of rainforests, lush green valleys, and the Pacific Ocean along the way.
We offer unique features, such as our Flyin’ Kaua’iian Harness, which lets you fly hands-free like a superhero. It also lets you try out zip acrobatics, such as upside-down flying.
Don’t worry if you’re new to zip lining because we offer Ground School for beginners, and kids can fly in tandem. Snacks and beverages are provided so your trip isn’t interrupted by hunger.
If the thought of zip lining makes you nervous, let us assure you that we take your safety very seriously. Each participant uses our custom-made harness, which was developed for unmatched security and versatility in any position. Everyone also wears a helmet for added safety. Our lines and custom pulleys are extra large and rugged, with sturdy handles.
Beyond the Zipline: Exploring Koloa
Once you’ve enjoyed the unique thrill of zip lining, there are other great vacation activities for everyone to enjoy. Here are just a few to consider.
Beaches
One of the classic things to do in Hawaii is to enjoy the beautiful surf and sand. Poipu Beach is a great choice for families, with crystal-clear, calm water, beautiful views, and plenty of room to snorkel and play. You might glimpse a monk seal during your adventures at Poipu. This beach is welcoming for young swimmers, with lifeguards on duty and a natural wading pool to explore.
For more adventurous beachgoers, Shipwreck Beach offers sparkling sand, crystalline blue water, and stunning coastline views. It’s a great place for swimming in the summer and even offers a 40-foot cliff jump. For even more outdoor adventure, trek the Maha’ulepu Coastal Trail and visit the lithified sand dune Makawehi Point.
Golf Courses
Ocean Course at Hōkūala, once named Kauai Lagoons with an updated address, is a 750-acre resort tucked away in the southwest corner of the island. It features a 7,156-yard golf course that winds its way through forests of mango and guava trees. You’ll play along dramatic ocean cliffs and over promontories perched high above the harbor.
The course has been recognized by MSN Travel Guide as the World’s Most Beautiful Golf Course and as one of the Top 50 Golf Destinations by Golf World.
Weekly events hosted at Ocean Course at Hōkūala include Sunrise Hui Aloha Huaka’i, where golfers can enjoy incredible views of the sun rising over the course, and the Twilight Scramble, which is hosted every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Reservations are recommended for prospective players for both events.
Princeville Makai Golf Club is a 7,200-yard course with stunning ocean views. Don’t miss the sunset golf cart tour, which features breathtaking sunset views and information about the island’s culture and history.
Cultural Attractions
Plan a trip to the historic Kilauea Lighthouse, located on the northern-most point of the main Hawaiian Islands. The Refuge is the best place to sight rare seabirds like the ‘ā (red-footed booby) or the ‘iwi (great frigate). Visitors may also have a chance to spot marine wildlife in the ocean view below. Reservations are required for all adults 16 and older.
Another outing you don’t want to miss is the Kauai Plantation Railway. They offer three conductor-narrated train tours through the 105-acre Kilohana Plantation. The two and a half mile railroad makes its way through a sampling of agricultural areas to show off the crops grown on the islands, as well as sharing local history.
Shopping and Dining
A number of small restaurants and shops dot the island, or you can opt for large retail locations such as the Poipu Shopping Village. You’ll find a wide selection of shops and restaurants, many of them locally owned.
